Seniors Nainoa Calip of Kamehameha-Hawai'i and David Saka of Moanalua have signed with the Hawai'i men's golf team.

Calip has won the last two Big Island Interscholastic Federation titles and was 15th at the state golf championship as a junior. He won the amateur division of the Hilo Invitational this past summer and also competed in the USA Hawai'i-Japan Cup earlier this month. Older brother Pono is a member of the UH golf team.

Saka placed 14th at the state championship as a junior and 13th as a sophomore. He was low amateur at the Maui Open and Kona Open and won the boys 15-18 flight at the Turtle Bay Junior Classic in September.

HPU MEN'S COACH LIEDTKE RESIGNS

Hawai'i Pacific men's soccer head coach Scott Liedtke has stepped down after seven seasons with the Sea Warriors.

He was an assistant for four years before taking over as head coach in 2007.

Liedtke had a 30-16-4 record as head coach, including 10 victories the past two seasons.

"We are very pleased with what Scott has done with the HPU men's soccer program," said HPU athletics director Darren Vorderbruegge. "Having both played and coached at HPU, he is and always will be part of the HPU family. We wish him the best in his future endeavors."

Liedtke cited his commitment to Le Jardin Academy, where he works in the admissions department, as the reason for his departure.

Liedtke was a member of the 1996 HPU team that finished a program-best 17-2-1.

He also played for the Hawai'i Tsunami from 1997-1998, and has been coaching at the club and high school levels for 21 years.
