WINTAH SLIPPAHS?

Tube Flops: They're a little bit kawaii, a little bit funk. They're slippahs, yes. But they're also sorta like a legging or a knee-high, and a lot like a trend that's coming on fast for winter in Hawai'i.

Miley Cyrus was seen twittering her fans in a pair. Celeb blogger Perez Hilton chatted about them online. Fred Segal chose them to be featured during a fashion week party with Vogue. Seventeen and Teen Vogue dressed models in them.

Now they're available for $30 at T&C Surf Designs Hawai'i stores as well as Barnfield's Raging Isle Surf & Cycle on the North Shore. Next month they'll be in the Sandal Tree stores. Fab with shorts and minis, we're flipping for 'em.

SALES & BARGAINS

Attention, vintage fans! Two popular spots for you to check out this week:

• Cloth boutique will be the featured vendor at Monday's Rock Shop, for a vintage fashion bar at the Honolulu Design Center. At this Rock Shop, it's a bargain-hunter's dream: Cloth will introduce the boutique's lower prices. Women's tops and skirts start at $8, and women's dresses will be available starting at $18, along with men's shirts starting at $12, and men's jackets/blazers starting at $18. In addition to Cloth's new prices on vintage wares, snag one-of-a-kind reconstructed items from the vintage shop's in-house line. Also a bargain: You can score a $50 value Amuse wine card for just $30. Rock Shop, 6-9 p.m. Monday, Honolulu Design Center, second floor, 1250 Kapi'olani Blvd.

• Score 20 percent off all new holiday dresses and accessories that arrive beginning Wednesday, on sale through Sunday at Catherine's Closet. It's just in time for you to find something amazing to wear at all the holiday parties on your calendar. With baubles and cute collectibles galore, you just might find the perfect, hard-to-find gift for someone on your list, too. Catherine's Closet, 2733 E Mänoa Road, Suite 204; open noon-5 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays, or by appointment. Call Catherine at 386-2746; find plenty of parking behind the shop, then walk upstairs.

• Tip: There's no need to mess with the mall on Black Friday to score those precious post-turkey-day deals unless you're aiming to score them at Walmart. Many stores post markdowns on Wednesday, so score early and then sleep in after your holiday feast, while others are running around frantically!

• This is the time of year when it's best to give back. What about a gift of a museum membership or local theater, opera or tickets to a musical performance, keeping your money local and contributing to the public good? Your friends and loved ones will appreciate your thoughtfulness. Check out www.ArtswithAloha.com for a list of some local arts organizations that could use your help.

BEAUTIFY THAT TABLE

Make beauty a part of your Thanksgiving menu, with a centerpiece to embellish your well-planned meal. We asked event planner Morgan Childs to come up with a quick and easy centerpiece on a budget. This decorative piece can be made for under $15.

Items needed: • White mums: $5.98 at the grocery store. • Raffia: $2 at a craft store. • Wood tray: Find a wood plate or tray around your home. • Fresh cranberries: $3. • Mini pumpkins: 69 each • Coconut or tree bark: Look for this in your yard, or purchase it at Walmart for $3.98. • Candles: Use tea lights around your home; different sizes are great for levels. • Vase: Use a vase you have at home, or get one at a thrift store.

Step 1: Take a glass vase and fill it halfway with fresh cranberries and water. Cut the stems and place white flowers. Tie a bow of raffia around the vase, and place on the wood tray.

Step 2: Place two mini pumpkins on either side of the vase on the tray. Fill the tray with the remaining fresh cranberries.

Step 3: Use the coconut or tree bark on the table as a runner.

Step 4: Place the tray. Wrap raffia around the candles.

"This centerpiece adds a little bit of nature, color, texture and interest. It takes just a few minutes to put together," says Childs. For more information on her events and company, visit www.moanaevents.com.
