The Pacific Whale Foundation will offer a free Be Whale Aware workshop for commercial and recreational boaters from 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Pacific Whale Foundation's Discovery Center in Mä'alaea, followed by a free practicum 4 to 5:15 p.m. Tuesday on the Ocean Voyager at harbor slip 52. Mariners are invited to attend this two-part program on whale-watching practices.

KEIKI CHORUS PRESENTS CHRISTMAS SHOW

The Lincoln Elementary School Keiki Chorus will perform a free concert, "Christmas Is Everywhere," at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 17 in the Hawai'i State Library lobby.

The 26-member Keiki Chorus, under the direction of Lorna Badoyen, will sing international songs of the holiday season and perform dances and drama.

3 BLUE RIBBON SCHOOLS HONORED

Momilani Elementary, Royal Elementary and 'Ewa Beach Elementary schools were named Blue Ribbon Schools by Frito-Lay of Hawaii and the state Department of Education at a gathering held Nov. 13 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.

The three schools, chosen from among 13 public schools nominated, will represent Hawai'i in the 2010 National No Child Left Behind-Blue Ribbon Schools Program.

ANNUAL TREE LIGHTING USHERS IN HOLIDAYS

Hawaii Kai Towne Center will hold its annual Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The event will include performances by Hula Hälau o Leaolani, Chris da Clown and the 'Äina Haina Elementary School Chorus. There will be face painting by Aloha Clowns, visits with Santa and free rides on the Santa Express train.

HPU HOSTS KONKUK UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT

Hawai'i Pacific University recently hosted Myung Oh, president of Konkuk University, one of HPU's international partner institutions. HPU said Oh is considered the "father of information technology" in South Korea.

HPU's Korean students attended a reception at the Hawai'i Loa campus hosted by HPU president Chatt G. Wright.
