Advertiser Staff

A 29-year-old man who was shot by a police officer yesterday near the intersection of Kapiolani Boulevard and Cooke Street was discharged from the hospital this morning and was immediately arrested and booked for investigation of attempted second-degree murder and unauthorized possession of confidential personal information, police said.
.

Gerald F. Galon, who did not provide a local address, was also arrested on two outstanding contempt of court warrants that are unrelated to yesterday's incident, police said.
A police officer fired three times at Galon after he attempted to drive away with a police sergeant, 46, hanging from and being dragged a short distance by the car, police officials said.
They said police officers were sent just before 11:30 a.m. to check on a complaint about a passed-out man sleeping in a car with its engine running on Cooke Street.
Police reported finding the man asleep in the driver’s seat with the engine running.
The driver was told to turn off the engine and complied initially, police said.
When the driver was asked to show some identification, he produced a state ID card belonging to someone else and said he could not find the registration and safety check documentation for the car, police said.
As a sergeant at the scene was reaching into the car to remove the key from the ignition, the driver restarted the vehicle and took off with the sergeant hanging from the driver’s side of the car, police said.
A second officer at the scene then drew his gun and fired three shots at the fleeing driver, police said.
The car was last seen heading east on South King Street and was found unoccupied about 30 minutes later in Kalihi, police said.
They said that about an hour after the incident occurred, Pali Momi hospital called to report that a man had come to the emergency room seeking treatment for suspicious injuries.
Police went to the hospital and identified Galon as the suspect in the incident on Cooke Street. He was later transferred to The Queen’s Medical Center and was reported to be in good condition there this morning, police said.
They initially classified the case as an attempted first-degree murder but later reclassified it to an attempted second-degree murder.
