Man shot by police officer leaves hospital, is arrested

Advertiser Staff

A 29-year-old man, shot by a police officer Sunday near Kapi'olani Boulevard and Cooke Street, was discharged from a hospital yesterday morning and was immediately arrested and booked on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder and unauthorized possession of confidential personal information, police said.

Gerald F. Galon, who gave no local address, also was arrested on two outstanding contempt of court warrants unrelated to Sunday's incident, police said.

An officer fired three times at Galon after he attempted to drive away with a police sergeant, 46, hanging from the ca and being dragged a short distance, police said.

Police initially classified the case as an attempted first-degree murder but later reclassified it as attempted second-degree murder.
