Woman escapes attack by man threatening to rape her
A mother waiting for her son to finish an exercise class at War Memorial Baseball Fields was attacked by a man with a knife who threatened to rape her Sunday night, Maui police said yesterday.
The woman was waiting for her son's class to finish around 7:30 p.m. when she went to use the bathroom, located between the tennis courts and the baseball fields. An unknown man grabbed her and threatened her with a knife that he was going to rape her, police said.
The woman grabbed the man's hand and believes she broke one of his fingers on his right hand as she broke free, police said.
The woman suffered minor injuries.
The suspect was described as approximately 5-foot-8 and "really smelly," according to police. He was slightly unshaven and wore a long-sleeve black shirt and jeans. He had a 2-inch tattoo of a cross on his left hand.
