Weightlifting: South Korea's Jang wins fourth world title

GOYANG, South Korea — Jang Mi-ran of South Korea set a world record and claimed two gold medals in the women's super heavyweight division at the World Weightlifting Championships on Saturday, winning her fourth straight title.

She hefted 412.2 pounds on her third and final clean and jerk, beating the record she set at last year's Beijing Olympics by 2.2 pounds.

Jang had to settle for silver in the snatch behind Tatiana Kashirina. The Russian lifted 304 pounds, while Jang 300 pounds.

Jang won another gold for her weight of 712 pounds.

Also, Svetlana Podobedova of Kazakhstan set three world records to claim three gold medals in the women's 165-pound division.

Podobedova lifted 291 pounds on her third and final attempt in the snatch, beating the previous world record by 2.2 pounds.

She also hoisted 353 pounds in the clean and jerk. Her combined 644 pounds won another gold and broke the previous record by 13.23 pounds.
