Rainbow Wahine open NCAA against New Mexico in Los Angeles

The University of Hawai‘i women's volleyball team will play New Mexico Friday to open the NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship in Los Angeles, it was announced today.

Hawai‘i (28-2), ranked No. 3 in the country, is seeded No. 12 in the 64-team field and was placed in the Stanford regional.
Oklahoma (18-11) and host USC (21-9) will play in the other first-round match.
New Mexico of the Mountain West Conference is 20-9. The first-round winners play Saturday in the second round.
No. 1 Penn State, Texas, Florida State and Stanford received the top seeds.
The Rainbow Wahine earned an automatic bid into the 64-team field by winning the Western Athletic Conference tournament on Wednesday.
Hawai‘i will be making its 28th NCAA Tournament appearance and 17th in a row.
This year's semifinals and finals are Dec. 17 and 19 in Tampa Bay, Fla.
