Bail set for man shot by police

Advertiser Staff

A man who was shot in the right rib area by Honolulu police officers Saturday morning after allegedly trying to flee in a stolen vehicle was charged last night and was being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.

Police charged Reinier Sales, 21, of Kalihi, with attempted first-degree murder, two charges of attempted second-degree murder, one count of unauthorized control of a motor vehicle and first-degree robbery.

Police say Sales tried to flee after three plainclothes officers demanded that he stop around 10:30 a.m. Saturday on Makuahine Place near the Kamehameha Shopping Center.

The shooting was the third incident in which officers have shot and wounded suspects this month.
