NFL: Giants S Kenny Phillips has knee surgery, out for the year

By TOM CANAVAN
AP Sports Writer

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — New York Giants safety Kenny Phillips has had microfracture surgery on his left knee and will have to wait about five months before he can start to run.

Phillips, who was placed on injured reserve last week with patellofemoral arthritis, had the surgery on Tuesday.
Phillips said on his Web site that Dr. James Andrew performed the surgery in Alabama.
Cornerback Kevin Dockery (hamstring), defensive end Justin Tuck (shoulder) and receiver Hakeem Nicks, the first-round draft pick who hurt his foot in the season opener, all participated fully in practice.
