Hawai'i High School Athletic Association executive director Keith Amemiya said he has resigned from his position as vice chairman of the Honolulu Police Commission to eliminate conflict-of-interest questions regarding the HHSAA's "SOS" (Save Our Sports) campaign.

Amemiya was presented a check of $25,000 to the SOS Fund on Sept. 16 on behalf of the State of Hawai'i Organization of Police Officers.

The HHSAA office has been collecting SOS Fund contributions since July 28, when the campaign kicked off. Amemiya said although all SOS money will eventually be turned over to the state's Department of Education, he decided to resign from the police commission to nullify any questions about the SHOPO contribution influencing his role as vice chairman.
