Hilo's Igawa shoots 77 in first round of U.S. Mid-Amateur stroke play

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. — Mike McCoy, Cameron Mackenzie, Taylor Massey and Derek Berg shot 68s today Saturday to share the lead in the first round of qualifying in the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship at The Kiawah Island Club.

The 46-year-old McCoy, from West Des Moines, Iowa, and Mackenzie, a 27-year-old Canadian, had 4-under rounds on the Cassique course.

The 32-year-old Massey, from Richmond, Va., and 28-year-old Berg, 28, from Duvall, Wash., had 3-under rounds at The River Course.
Hilo's Chris Igawa shot a 77 at the River Course and was tied for 128th.
The top 64 after the second round of qualifying will advance to match play.
