SAN FRANCISCO — During his days as Hall of Fame linebacker, Mike Singletary had his fair share of tackles and sacks.

But he never returned an interception for a touchdown.
“Hands like rocks,” Singletary explained.
That’s why Singletary thinks Patrick Willis might even eclipse his own feats as a player. The 49ers’ do-everything linebacker had one of his most complete games Sunday, registering 2.5 sacks, three quarterback hurries, eight tackles and “” with hands like magnets “” an interception that he returned 23 yards for a touchdown.
“Wow,” Singletary said. “Just ’wow’ would be the only thing I can say. ’Wow,’ because he has so much talent. He just has to tie his talent and knowledge together and he’s going to take it to the next level.”
Singletary had seven career interceptions in 179 career games, but none for touchdowns.
Willis has done it twice, taking one back 86 yards for a score last year against Seattle.
On Sunday, Boller rolled right and tried to throw the ball across the field to his left. Willis swooped over and caught the ball in stride.
“Today was one of the better games that I’ve had since I’ve been in the league, but there is still so much to improve on,” Willis said.
—All of the 49ers captains wore a pink patch on their jerseys to support breast cancer awareness. Quarterback Shaun Hill was among those to also wear pink cleats to support the cause.
Hill said he usually blocks out the crowd on game days, but he caught sight of a group of cancer survivors standing together before the game.
“It gave me chills,” Hill said. “I could hear them talking about my shoes and how much it meant to them. Some of the things that they were saying, it was touching.”
The quarterback ran over and shook hands with several of the women. His pink shoes and similar game-worn apparel from across the league Sunday will be auctioned at NFLAuction.NFL.com.
Proceeds go to the American Cancer Society and team charities.
—n Singletary continued to express concern about the offensive line. The 49ers eked out just 3.3 yards per carry and Hill was sacked four times.
“We’re out of sync,” Singletary said. “For us to get to where we need to go, our offensive line is going to have to do a better job, and it will.”
—Former Cal standout Kyle Boller had a rough day in his return to the Bay Area. Filling in for Marc Bulger (shoulder), the Rams quarterback completed 13 of 24 passes for 108 yards, an interception and a 48.6 quarterback rating.
“It’s always fun to come back to California and San Francisco,” Boller said. “Losing is no fun.”
—Receivers Jason Hill and Brandon Jones were on the game-day roster for the first time this season. To make room, returner Allen Rossum and receiver Micheal Spurlock were on the inactive list. Both players were healthy scratches.
—Former left tackle Steve Wallace, who won three Super Bowls with the 49ers in 1986-96, served as honorary team captain.
—The Rams played without right tackle Jason Smith, the No. 2 overall pick, who had a sprained left knee. Adam Goldberg started in Smith’s place.
—Former Giants first baseman J.T. Snow was a pregame guest along the sidelines. Snow’s late father, Jack Snow, was a star receiver for the Rams and later served as one of the team’s broadcasters.
“We used to go to the L.A. Coliseum every Sunday,” Snow said.
—Quarterback Alex Smith was the only 49ers player on the active roster who did not take the field Sunday.
