2-mile PetWalk helps raise $130,000 for Humane Society

Advertiser Staff

More than 1,000 dogs, cats, rabbits and birds and their human handlers raised more than $130,000 for the Hawaiian Humane Society yesterday during the 19th annual, two-mile PetWalk around Magic Island.

Proceeds from PetWalk help the society's efforts in protecting animals from abuse, placing homeless pets with families and teaching children about compassion for animals, among several programs.

"As the biggest celebration of pets and people in Hawaii, this walk is an opportunity for friends and supporters to raise money, which will support the society's programs and services, including rescuing animals, passing stronger animal protection laws and teaching kids about compassion," Pamela Burns, president and CEO of the Hawaiian Human Society said in a statement.
