The Kane'ohe Post Office is expected to reopen today, after it was closed yesterday morning when a section of its roof collapsed during a heavy rain.

Two employees were working inside the building when "a fairly large section of roof" collapsed into a storage area about 2 or 2:30 a.m. yesterday, Postal Service spokesman Duke Gonzales said.

"There were heavy rains, certainly," Gonzales said. "There was a lot of buildup of water."

There were no injuries, he said.

Customers who needed to buy stamps or mail parcels were directed to the Kailua Post Office for the day, Gonzales said.

Workers cleaned up debris and were assessing the cost of the damage, Gonzales said.
