Advertiser Staff

A man who appeared to be in his 40s drowned today in waters off of Kahala after bystanders tried to revive him, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city’s emergency services department.

Paramedics and firefighters responded to a 3:38 p.m. call and found bystanders preforming cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the man at Hunakai Beach, Cheplic said. The bystanders apparently retrieved the man from nearshore waters, Cheplic said.
Paramedics pronounced the man dead at 4:21 p.m.
