Gov. Linda Lingle and Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona signed a citation yesterday recognizing Kona-based Cyanotech Corp. for 25 years of leadership in microalgae production.

"On behalf of the people of Hawai'i, we send our personal greetings of aloha and offer our congratulations on Cyanotech Corp.'s 25th anniversary ... Cyanotech Corporation has been a world leader in producing nutrients and health products from microalgae," the citation read.

Andrew H. Jacobson, Cyanotech president and chief executive officer said the company was honored to receive the recognition.

"We benefit significantly by having our facility in the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii at Kona, which was chosen scientifically as the prime location in the world for reliably and successfully growing microalgae products."

Cyanotech was founded in 1983 by Gerald Cysewski, the company's chief scientific officer.
