$34M contract helps state office buildings go green

Advertiser Staff

The state Capitol and nine other state office buildings are getting an energy-efficiency upgrade.

The state yesterday announced it has awarded a $34 million contract to Noresco LLC, an energy services company, to upgrade lighting, computer power management, air conditioning, building controls, elevators and generators.

The project is expected to reduce the building's electricity consumption by 30 percent. Savings will amount to $1.9 million this fiscal year and $2.8 million next fiscal year.

Funding comes from general obligation bonds and a commercial loan.

Besides the Capitol, other buildings getting energy upgrades over the next two years include the state Archives, the Hemmeter building and the state Office Tower.
