by Advertiser staff

Singer, actress and Broadway star Lea Salonga announced today that a portion of the ticket sales from her upcoming Honolulu concert will be donated to support typhoon relief efforts in her native Philippines.

Salonga has committed to donating $2 of every ticket sold in Hawaii to support the recovery efforts currently taking place in the Philippines in the aftermath of two severe typhoons, Typhoon Ketsana and Typhoon Parma, that devastated large areas of Manila and Luzon.
Salonga is from Manila and made a career for herself in show business as a sought-after stage actress with a voice big enough for Broadway. She played the leading role of Kim in the musical "Miss Saigon" when it debuted in 1989 at London's Theatre Royal, and played the same role when the popular stage production moved to Broadway in 1991. She won a Tony Award for her role as Kim. She is also the singing voice of Princess Jasmine in Disney's classic animated children's film "Aladdin.
Salonga is scheduled to perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10 at the Blaisdell Concert Hall. Tickets are $39 to $125 and are available at any Ticketmaster location, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by phone at 1-800-745-3000.
