EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli rejoined practice with the No. 13 Oregon Ducks on a limited basis yesterday after missing two days with a right knee injury.

It appeared that backup quarterback Nate Costa will get the start on Saturday at UCLA. Masoli, a Saint Louis School alum, was scheduled to have his knee re-examined by doctors today.

Masoli was sacked in the first half of Oregon's 52-6 victory over Washington State last Saturday and left the game shortly thereafter.

Masoli was adamant afterward that his knee was fine. He was also listed atop Oregon's depth chart for the UCLA game.

However, he did not practice Monday or Tuesday, leading some to speculate the injury was more serious. Yesterday he wore shells rather than full pads.

Coach Chip Kelly would not comment on Masoli's injury. His policy this season concerning injured players is to say they're either out or day-to-day. The Masoli case was no exception.

EX-KAHUKU SAFETY TE'O DISMISSED FROM TEAM

Brigham Young University football coach Bronco Mendenhall has kicked sophomore safety Shiloah Te'o off the team.

Mendenhall said in a statement yesterday that Te'o, a Kahuku High graduate, has been dismissed from the 18th-ranked Cougars for violation of team rules.

Provo City Justice Court records show that Te'o was charged Sept. 18 with driving under the influence from an arrest in August.

Mendenhall told The Salt Lake Tribune yesterday that he learned of the charge over the weekend, then decided to dismiss Te'o after practice Tuesday night.

Students at the Mormon church-owned school agree to live by BYU's honor code, which forbids drinking alcohol.

Te'o, a 5-foot-10, 206-pounder from La'ie, had five tackles, including one tackle for a loss, in five games this season.

Te'o is a cousin of former Punahou School standout Manti Te'o, a freshman linebacker at Notre Dame.

SCHOOL PRESIDENT SAYS BOWDEN'S JOB SAFE FOR NOW

Florida State president T.K. Wetherell says coach Bobby Bowden's job is safe for now.

In a news release yesterday, Wetherell says the coaching situation will be re-evaluated at the end of the season.

Wetherell also says offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher will be the next head coach when Bowden leaves, and school officials will start working with Fisher on an agreement.

Bowden's future at the school came under scrutiny this week when the chairman of the university's trustees, Jim Smith, said the coach who once made the Seminoles a national powerhouse should leave after this season.

Bowden's 384 wins are second all-time only to Penn State's Joe Paterno among major college coaches.

TOP RECEIVER BRYANT INELIGIBLE FOR SEASON

All-America wide receiver Dez Bryant has been ruled ineligible by Oklahoma State for an improper interaction with a former NFL player.

Bryant said yesterday in a statement released by the university that he "made a mistake by not being entirely truthful when meeting with the NCAA." He also apologized to his teammates, coaches, fans and the NCAA.

A top NFL prospect, Bryant He has 17 catches for 323 yards and four touchdowns this season, but sat out Oklahoma State's last game.
