Two people were injured in a Lihue traffic crash this afternoon on Rice St. near the entrance to the Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach Club.

They were taken to Wilcox Hospital via ambulance. Their condition was not known.

According to a preliminary report, the driver of a Ford F-150 truck was going up Rice St. from the Kauai Marriott at around 1:55 pm when it hydroplaned in water left on the roadway after a recent downpour.

The truck spun around into the oncoming lane and collided with a Hyundai sedan heading in the opposite direction.

The two drivers were taken to Wilcox Hospital.

There were no passengers in either vehicle.

Rice St. between Mokoi Rd. and the Marriott entrance was closed following the crash and was reopened at around 2:35 pm.
