BYU-Hawaii stops Westminster in 4

Losaline Faka'osi had 12 kills and 33 digs to lead Brigham Young-Hawai'i to a 25-16, 25-27, 25-17, 25-18 women's volleyball victory over Westminster (Utah) last night at Cannon Activities Center in La'ie.

The Seasiders improved to 8-10. Westminster is 6-14.

Tanza Buroker had 10 block assists and one solo block for BYUH. Nobuko Kotoyori added 27 digs.

Talita Kresser had a match-high 14 kills for Westminster.

RAINBOW WAHINE RALLY PAST ALUMNAE

The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine soccer team beat the UH alumnae, 2-1, at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium last night.

Vanessa Bailey scored in the 22nd minute on an assist from Jessica Marote, and Marote scored in the 28th minute to come back from a 1-0 deficit.

Adria Campbell scored in the fourth minute on an assist from Taryn Fukuroku.

SAVE OUR SPORTS

MURPHY'S TO HOST HO'OLAULEA OCT. 21

Murphy's Bar and Grill will host a downtown Ho'olaulea Oct. 21 to raise money for the Hawai'i High School Athletic Association's "Save Our Sports" drive.

The event will be 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Merchant Street and Nu'uanu Avenue.

Athletic directors, coaches and boosters from all public schools from around the state will be preparing and selling food and staffing beverage stands, according to organizers. Live music will be provided by local entertainers.

Food scripts will be sold at $5 each, which will be good for one plate of food or a beer or glass of wine. Five scripts are being sold for $20 before the event.

Net proceeds will be donated to the SOS program to benefit public school athletic programs, which saw budgets reduced this year.

The campaign recently surpassed $1 million.

PACIFIC RELIEF

UH TO COLLECT DONATIONS AT GAME

University of Hawai'i athletes will be collecting donations at today's Warrior football game on behalf of the American Red Cross for disaster relief efforts in the Pacific Region.

Members of the baseball, softball and men's and women's basketball teams will be at Aloha Stadium gates accepting donations before the game against Fresno State.

The drive is part of "Operation Uplift," a statewide campaign to help support the relief efforts in tsunami-ravaged American Samoa.

Demo Day today: Turtle Bay Golf will have a Demo Day today, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the newly expanded Fazio Driving Range. Equipment available to try will include Nike, Taylor Made, Cleveland and Callaway. There will be special "Demo Day Pricing." The golf shop will also have a clothing sale, with featured brands 25 to 75 percent off.
