Advertiser Staff

Big Island Police are warning the public that it is dangerous and illegal to aim laser pointers at any aircraft.

Police received reports from the Hilo airport tower Wednesday and Thursday nights (Oct. 7 and Oct. 8) reporting that green lasers were being aimed at the cockpits of commercial airlines. Officers initiated two reckless endangering cases and are investigating.

Police ask that anyone with information call the Police Department's non-emergency line at 935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
