HONOLULU _ More than 100 people marched around the state Capitol this afternoon to protest the lack laws ensuring the civil rights of gays and lesbians.

They toted signs and shouted chants urging the equality of all in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans-gender community in all 50 states. Their purpose was to raise community awareness to their fight toward equality. Put on by the Pride Alliance Hawaii, the march was timed to coincide with the National Equality march and National Coming Out Day.
"We're trying to raise awareness of our fight to get equality under the law for all LGBTs (lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans-gender)," said Tara O'Neill, Pride Alliance Hawaii president. "There's a current brewing in people's minds that the issue is one of civil rights."

Following the march, protesters heard speeches on health care, immigration policies and the military.
