Idaho stops SJSU, goes 2-0 in WAC

SAN JOSE, Calif. — DeMaundray Woolridge scored on a 5-yard run with just over a minute to play to give Idaho a 29-25 victory over San Jose State last night, ending a four-game losing streak to the Spartans.

The winning drive was directed by backup quarterback Brian Reader, who took over after starter Nathan Enderle threw his second interception of the fourth quarter.

Woolridge rushed for 93 yards and scored twice for the Vandals (5-1, 2-0 Western Athletic), who are seeking their first winning season in 10 years. Princeton McCarty rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown.

Trey Farquhar kicked three field goals, including a season-best 52 yards, as the Vandals survived four turnovers, including their first lost fumble of the year, and 11 penalties for 113 yards.

Enderle finished with 216 yards on 14-of-26 passing.

Jordan La Secla threw for 299 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for another score for the Spartans (1-4, 0-1). Marquis Avery caught seven passes for 96 yards, including a 38-yard touchdown reception that helped tie the game at 22-22 early in the fourth quarter.

Duke Ihenacho intercepted a Enderle pass to set up Tyler Cope's go-ahead 20-yard field goal with 10:46 left, making it 25-22 San Jose State.

Reader completed his only pass for 11 yards and a crucial first down as McCarty and Woolridge ate up most of the yardage leading to the winning score at 1:10.

NEW MEXICO STATE 20, UTAH STATE 17

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Kyle Hughes' 28-yard field goal on the final play of the game lifted the host Aggies (3-3, 1-1) over the visiting Aggies (1-4, 0-1).

NMSU set up the win by forcing Utah State to punt from the New Mexico State 46-yard line with two minutes left. Marcus Anderson returned it 56 yards to the Utah State 29-yard line. Five plays later, New Mexico State moved the ball to the 11, where Hughes kicked the winner. Utah State plays at Hawai'i Nov. 7. New Mexico State is at Hawai'i the following week.

NO. 9 OHIO STATE 31, WISCONSIN 13

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Kurt Coleman and Jermale Hines returned interceptions for touchdowns and Ray Small brought a kickoff back 96 yards for another score as the Buckeyes (5-1, 3-0 Big Ten) beat the self-destructing Badgers (5-1, 2-1) at Columbus, Ohio.

Coleman was the only person near Scott Tolzien's pass in the first quarter and returned it 89 yards. After Wisconsin closed 14-10 early in the third quarter, Hines tipped a pass, pulled it in and ran 32 yards for a TD. Wisconsin plays at Hawai'i Dec. 5

NO. 18 BYU 59, UNLV 21

LAS VEGAS — Harvey Unga ran for three touchdowns and 149 yards and Max Hall completed 21 of 27 passes for 320 yards and two more scores as the Cougars (5-1, 2-0 Mountain West) romped past the Rebels (2-4, 0-2).

Unga scored all three of his touchdowns in the first 20 minutes, breaking free for a 52-yard run with 11:12 to play in the second quarter to give BYU a 24-7 lead. Unga also ran it in from 33 yards and 1 yard.

NAVY 63, RICE 14

HOUSTON — Navy Quarterback Ricky Dobbs ran for four touchdowns before yielding to backup Kriss Proctor, who added three scoring runs of his own, as the Midshipmen (4-2) amassed 538 total yards in sailing past the Owls (0-6). Navy plays at Hawai'i Nov. 28.

ARIZONA STATE 27, WASHINGTON STATE 14

Pullman, Wash. — Danny Sullivan ran for one touchdown and threw for another, and the Sun Devils (3-2, 1-1 Pac-10) held the Huskies (1-5, 0-4) to 181 yards, 99 of them on the longest touchdown pass in school history, at Pullman, Wash. Washington State lost to Hawai'i, 38-20, Sept. 12.

CENTRAL ARKANSAS 34, NORTHWESTERN STATE 0

NATCHITOCHES, La. — Robbie Park threw two touchdown passes and caught one, and the Bears (4-1, 1-0 Southland Conference), who had 433 yards of total offense, routed the Demons (0-5, 0-1), who were 3-for-16 on third-down conversions, are winless after five games for the first time since 1974. Central Arkansas lost to Hawai'i, 25-20, on Sept. 4.
