Wahiawa Veterans Day Parade set for Nov. 11

Advertiser Staff

The Wahiawä Lions will hold its 64th annual Veterans Day Parade Nov. 11 along California Avenue in Wahiawä.

The parade will begin with a joint service color guard at 10 a.m. and the Royal Hawaiian Band will lead parade participants from Kaçala Elementary School up California Avenue to Fred Wright District Park.
The theme of this year’s parade is “Welcome Our Veterans.” The grand marshal will be retired Army Col. Bert Nishimura, a member of the famed 442nd Regimental Combat Team.
Henry Lee, parade chairman, said there were 85 marching units in last year’s parade and he is expecting more this year.
“We’re hoping for an even bigger turnout this year to support our veterans and our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan,” Lee said.
Gen. Robert Caslen, commanding general of the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, will be the featured speaker at a program following the parade. The program also will feature a flag-raising ceremony, massing of the colors and display of military equipment.
To participate in the parade or for more information, call Donald Sagara at 621-0115.
