Emme brings back Food and Wine memories

Advertiser Staff

TV host and producer Emme Tomimbang will showcase two key Isle chefs in her periodic series "Emme's Island Moments," airing at 9 p.m. Oct. 22 and repeating at 4 p.m. Oct. 24 on KHON-Channel 2.

Tomimbang has known chefs Roy Yamaguchi and Alan Wong, and master sommelier Chuck Furuya for almost 20 years and has interviewed them, traveled with them, followed the ups and downs of their lives and careers.
In footage from past shows, and also from the personal collections of the chefs, she shows Alan Wong cooking for Pres. Barack Obama at the White House and recalls her first interview with him in a special on "local boy chefs," during which he cooks a dish called "bachelor's saimin."
Yamaguchi discusses his recent experiences on "Top Chef Masters" and acknowledges that, while it wasn't easy to lose, he wanted to set an example for his young chefs: "wine or lose, you need to be challenged."
Said Tomimbang, who has been poring over old footage of what she calls "the chefs' brat pack" to edit the video, "I can't believe I did all this. We don't get together like this anymore. We're also so buys.
