Voluntary disclosure starts with phone call

 • Tax scofflaws face Thursday deadline

People wishing to come forward under the state’s voluntary disclosure program on undeclared income from offshore bank accounts must go through a process to determine if they are eligible and how much they need to pay.

It starts with a call to a disclosure coordinator at 587-1603 to determine eligibility. Callers will be asked their name to determine whether they are already under civil examination or criminal prosecution. Those who are won’t be eligible for the program.
If eligible, the taxpayer then must:
• Submit a cover letter saying they are making the disclosure to resolve unreported offshore income and that none of the money was from an illegal income source;
• A copy of voluntary disclosure documents being submitted to the IRS;
• Amended tax returns;
• Full payment of tax and interest
