6.0 quake strikes off Samoas, but no tsunami generated

A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck in the area of the Samoa islands this morning, the U.S. Geological Survey says.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says no wave was generated.
The USGS says the quake hit at 6:22 a.m. Thursday in the Samoas, or 8:22 this morning in Hawaii.
The quake hit at a depth of 6.2 miles.
It was located 227 miles west-southwest of Apia, Samoa; 262 miles north-northwest of Neiafu, Tonga; 286 miles west of Pago Pago, American Samoa; and 1,690 miles west of Papeete, Tahiti.
