“Opalavision,” an interactive show about the City of Honolulu’s recycling and waste management programs, premieres next week in Wakïkï’s as part of the Green Aloha Concert.
The free show, which gets under way at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at Queen's Beach, will feature musical performances by Amy Hanaialiçi and longtime recycling advocate Henry Kapono, slam poet Kealoha, information booths on recycling, urban forestry, water and wastewater issues, and more.
“Opalavision” features young local actors in 3-minute episodes, which aim to be educational and entertaining, on issues ranging from composting to landfill management. It will air on Oceanic Time Warner Cable’s digital Green Channel.
Channel 332 features an interactive component that will allow viewers to quickly download any of the show’s episodes. All episodes will be available online at the city’s Web site, http://www.opala.org.
The concert is sponsored by the City & County of Honolulu, environmental groups and local businesses. Donate Hi5 cans and bottles at the event to raise funds for a green space at Keiki O Ka Aina’s preschool in Palolo Valley.
