KAILUA — Having to play for two nights in a row has yet to hurt the Castle girls volleyball team.

Instead, the Knights are pumped to still be in the playoffs and relying on every member on their 10-player roster.

Erika Jarrett had 12 kills, and Malie Garcia and Joshell Lilio had eight each to help Castle defeat Kapolei, 25-13, 19-25, 25-17, 25-21, in last night's second round of the O'ahu Interscholastic Association White Division playoffs at Kailua High School.

"We believe in each other, we believe in everybody," Lilio said of her 10-player team. "We know that and they know they can do it. You got to have faith."

Castle (11-3), the East's No. 2 seed, defeated Nänäkuli in Tuesday's first round and advances to next Tuesday's winner's bracket match against East No. 3 Kaiser (11-3) at Farrington.

Last night, Rachelle Suava had eight kills and five blocks to lead Kapolei (9-3), the West No. 1 seed and defending White champion.

After two kills gave the Hurricanes a 15-12 lead in Set 4, Castle coach Brannan Bajet called a timeout. Jarrett said the players told each other to pick it up and communicate, and they quickly went ahead 16-15 behind kills from Ku'ulei Lynch, Jarrett, Lilio and Brittney Lane.

The score was tied at 16 and 17 before Jarrett had a kill and her fifth ace of the match to give Castle a 20-17 lead.

Kapolei closed to 22-20 after two Castle errors and got within 23-21 after Leilani Tuani-Fifita's kill. However, a Kapolei service error and hitting error ended the match.

"We just want to play some more," Jarrett said. "We want to win the banner."

In Set 2, Lafitaga Milovale had four kills to lead Kapolei, which rallied from a 4-0 deficit and used a late 5-1 run to pull away.

"We took our minds off the game," Jarrett said.

Tied 9-9 in Set 3, the Knights scored seven straight to pull ahead. Castle libero Malina Kekahuna had two aces and the Hurricanes committed four hitting errors during the run.

COUGARS WIN

After three close sets, East No. 3 Kaiser stormed through Set 4 to upset host and East No. 1 Kailua, 22-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-16, last night.

"The adrenaline from the first couple of games helped us push through," said Kaiser's Jolie Au, who served the first six points of Set 4.

Kaiser (11-3) led 10-2 after Kari Noborikawa's ace, and then began substituting its bench. Au credited the Kaiser reserves for coming out strong and helping the team finish.

Kailua closed to 19-13 on a kill by Sherie Recca. Kaiser's Madison Pedone then had a kill and 6-foot-2 freshman Nikki Taylor had four to close out the match.

Down 15-12 in Set 3, the Cougars scored five straight behind three kills from Haley Durham and one from Sarah Epstein to pull away.

Kailua (11-2) will play Kapolei in a consolation bracket match next Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Farrington.
