In 2007, Lydia Mondavi took the grapes from the family's Napa Valley vineyards to create a grape-seed-based line of luxury cosmetics and skin care called 29 Cosmetics. The name derives from a picturesque road that runs through Napa Valley.

Mondavi is making her second trip to Honolulu with a cooler in hand — not to keep Mondavi wines at the correct temperature, but to preserve her latest skin care innovation, the Cabernet Crush face mask, made from freshly harvested pomace (grape skins, seeds and pulp) from the winemaking process. The handmade, organic treatment is being sneaked into Honolulu, as it is not slated to become available until this holiday season.

Mondavi and her team of beauty and skin care experts are taking appointments for mini facials, using Cabernet Crush, and makeup consultations from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow at Neiman Marcus, Ala Moana Center. Appointments: 948-7382.

SEDONA TRUNK SHOW

This year's pre-holiday Sedona Gem Show offers bargains in a special shipment direct from the Denver Gem Show. It includes natural crystals, rare mineral specimens and stone carvings for collectors, as well as handmade jewelry with colored gem stones set in sterling silver and 14K gold.

Owner Malia Johnson is offering dealer-direct prices, and many pieces are priced below $50. The show will be held from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. tomorrow and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Sedona store in Ward Centre.

FREE PAMPERING AT SEPHORA

Clarisonic and Kinerase are pairing up to offer complimentary facials using the new Kinerase Photofacial Sun Damaged Reversal system and Clarisonic's new Mia cleansing system, which has been a favorite among beauty editors for the past few months. In addition, Kinerase is introducing its Scar Healing Therapy to the Islands. Representatives will take appointments for facials from 2 to 7 p.m. today and 1 to 6 p.m. tomorrow at Ala Moana Center, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Sephora Pearlridge. For Ala Moana appointments, call 944-9797; for Pearlridge appointments, call 487-0660.

FASHIONISTA'S CLOSET SWAP

Fashionista's Market is now collecting clothing, shoes and accessories for its third annual Closet Swap. Here's how it works: 1. Clean your closet of fashionable gently used or new items. 2. Drop them off at the Fashionista's Market Boutique at 1185 Bethel St., now through Thursday. Items will be tallied and you'll receive a ticket with the number of pieces you have qualified for toward your swapping credit. During the swap on Oct. 24, you'll take home the number of items marked on your ticket. Note: Bring your own reusable tote to carry home your swapped clothes. The Swap begins at 9:30 a.m. with breakfast and the swapping starts at 11 a.m. on Oct. 24, at Luana Hills Country Club.

Tickets ($25 each) must be purchased in advance and are available at Fashionista's Market, Adore in Kahala Mall and The Wedding Cafe and Alliway at Ward Warehouse.

LINDA IKI COLLECTION

Honolulu fashion designer Linda Iki has added Asian-inspired accents to her hand-loomed knit classics. A favorite with sophisticated Island women, especially those who love to travel, Iki has been exploring the use of bamboo yarns for her pants and skirts to provide a soft, luxurious hand.

Iki introduces her fall and holiday collection from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Waialae Country Club, in the Diamond Head Room. Information: 944-9293.

ON OUR RADAR

ODOR EATERS FOR YOUR CLOSET

As we head into the rainy, damp Island winter, it's nice to know there's a new weapon we can add to our arsenal of closet odor fighters: FRESHhanger.
It's a fragrance-free sleeve that slips over any ordinary clothes hanger and helps eliminate odors, from smoke to body and chemical odors. Its laboratory-tested activated carbon material is said to be the most odor-absorbent material known to man. It also protects clothes from deterioration and fading.
FRESHhanger is nonallergenic and emits no fragrances. Each sleeve lasts about six months. The makers say it even absorbs harmful dry-cleaning chemicals. It comes in packs of four and sells for $10 at www.freshhanger.com or from www.Amazon.com.
