Man arrested in alleged sex assault

Police arrested a 66-year-old Kalihi man Wednesday at a school in Kalihi after a 10-year-old boy reported being sexually assaulted.

The boy notified school officials who, in turn, contacted police.The man was located at the school and arrested about 2:30 p.m.

Police did not identify the school or say if the man is employed by the school.

ELDERLY MAN DIES AFTER OCEAN RESCUE

A man who appeared to be in his 70s was pulled from ocean waters fronting the Shore Bird Restaurant in the Outrigger Reef Hotel and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital a short time later, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department.

Cheplic said city paramedics were sent to the hotel at 2199 Kalia Road at about 12:40 p.m. and found bystanders already performing CPR on the man.

The victim was unresponsive when paramedics arrived, Cheplic said.

NFLSTAR FRANCIS ACCUSED OF THEFT

An owner of an indoor football team in Omaha, Neb., has accused former team president and NFL great Russ Francis of theft.

A police report filed earlier this month by Jeff Sprowls alleges Francis, a Kailua native, used a debit card 66 times without authorization and amassed charges of more than $29,000.

Police have not arrested Francis. Prosecutors did not immediately return a phone call today from The Associated Press.

Efforts by AP to reach Francis were unsuccessful. There is no publicly listed number for him in the Omaha area.

Francis was hired in May to run the Omaha Beef team in the Indoor Football League. Sprowls fired him in August.
