It's Metromix Honolulu's first anniversary month, and the interactive, partycentric Web site is celebrating with a series of events. FALLING FOR FASHION

GO WATCH DA KINE

Ho brah, what, you talk pidgin? You know, da kine — part-English, part-Hawaiian, Por-da-gee and practically every ethnicity you can think of, all combined into one language. From its early beginnings in the sugarcane fields through today, everyone in Hawaii has come across some form of pidgin, whether you speak it yourself, or have overheard a conversation in the manapua lunchwagon line. Get some historical and academic background on pidgin, alongside some kamaäina pride, from "Pidgin: The Voice of Hawai'i," (right) screening today as part of the Hawaii International Film Festival. DJ LEGEND'S HAWAI'I SESSIONS

Before there were all these indie-hipster DJs, loud electro mash-ups and banging bass lines, there were house DJs like Mark Farina. The legendary DJ started his music career in the grime of Chicago and Detroit in the late '80s. He earned his fame by combining moody jazz, electronic house beats and early hip-hop to produce the Mushroom Jazz genre, which took off in San Francisco through Om Records.

Throughout the years, Farina has produced more than eight mix-albums, with more than 100,000 sold worldwide. He's on a worldwide tour to promote his latest album with New York's Ministry of Sound, "Sessions," and he lands in Hawaii this week.

Markdowns at most stores happen between Sunday and Tuesday, just after the weekend rush, and before the following weekend.
