Soccer: US player Charlie Davies out of intensive care

Associated Press

WASHINGTON — U.S. national team forward Charlie Davies has been moved out of intensive care as he recovers from serious injuries after a car accident.

The U.S. Soccer Federation says Davis is now able to receive visitors. He will have surgery early next week to repair a broken left elbow and may require operations to repair facial fractures.
Davies broke several bones, including two in his right leg, and sustained a lacerated bladder from the accident, which occurred last week when the U.S. team was in Washington for a World Cup qualifying game.
Davies is expected to need six to 12 months to recover, essentially ruling him out for the World Cup, which begins in South Africa in June.
