Radford High School assistant athletic director Kai Enos’ condition has improved dramatically and he is expected to be moved out of Straub Clinic and Hospital’s intensive care unit today after spending last night in the ICU following a surf accident, Radford AD Kelly Sur told The Advertiser this afternoon.

Sur said Enos, a former standout basketball and football player at Kaimuki and boys basketball coach at Radford, was surfing at Kewalo Basin late yesterday morning when he was knocked unconscious after catching a particularly big wave.
He was seen floating face-down in the water by a nearby off-duty lifeguard, who assisted with an off-duty doctor in administering CPR and bringing Enos to shore.
Enos was then taken by ambulance to Straub, where he was listed in critical condition.
“It was touch-and-go for awhile,” Sur said.
But Sur said Enos regained consciousness around 11 p.m. and was able to recognize friends and family.
Sur said Enos’ condition improved today.
“I think he’s out of the woods already,” Sur said.
Enos is the father of current University of Hawaii men’s basketball walk-on Rykin Enos, a former football and basketball standout at Kamehameha.
