GiRL FeST founder Kathryn Xian is one of five nominees nationwide for Glamour’s Woman of Your Year contest, which is held in conjunction with the magazine’s Women of the Year awards.

The contest is open to women who are making positive contributions to their community and the world. After readers sent in their nominations, Glamour narrowed the field down to five finalists. The woman with the most online votes wins a trip to the Glamour Women of the Year awards on Nov. 9 at New York City’s Carnegie Hall.
Xian, 36, of Honolulu, serves as the nonexecutive director of GiRL FeST, a nonprofit that focuses on preventing violence against women. This year Xian also cofounded the Pacific Alliance to Stop Slavery, an organization geared toward fighting human trafficking, according to Glamour's Web site.
Xian was nominated by her friend, Stephanie Tolentino, 23, of Honolulu.
“Kathryn can do it all—and she does it with the biggest heart,” Tolentino is quoted on the site.
