Longtime Punahou teacher, coach Dave Eldredge dies

Longtime former Punahou School teacher and coach Dave Eldredge died today of a heart attack.
He was 77.

Eldredge was en route back to Honolulu from a baseball tournament in Arizona, where he was helping his son Duane coach a team of Hawaii high school players.
Eldredge was a standout athlete at Punahou in the 1940s and played football at Stanford University. After returning to Hawai‘i, he began a 45-year career at Punahou teaching science and Hawaiian Studies and coaching football, basketball and baseball at the intermediate, JV and varsity levels.
He also started the school’s annual Holoku performance program featuring Hawaiian music and dance.
