Hawaiçi businesses had the seventh-worst record when it comes to past due accounts receivable, according to the October report by Cortera, a business information provider that publishes a monthly index of accounts receivable activities by state.

The report found 20.71 percent of Hawaiçi-based business accounts were past due. Cortera tracks late payments against agreed upon terms.
Nevada had the worst record at 25.6 percent, while the national average was about 17 percent, the company reported.
“It’s no coincidence that states hit particularly hard by the economy, like Nevada, show the most stress when it comes to paying bills in a timely manner,” said Cortera President Jim Swift, in a press statement.
