Top stars to perform at Save Our Sports benefit tomorrow

Advertiser Staff

A star-studded lineup of local musicians including Cecelio & Kapono, Amy Hanaialii and Brother Noland will be performing at tomorrow’s Hawaii High School Athletic Association “SOS” (Save Our Sports) downtown ho‘olaulea near Murphy’s Bar and Grill.

The event, a fund-raiser for the SOS campaign to assist public school athletic departments strapped by recent budget cuts, is scheduled for 5:30 to 10 p.m.
Nu‘uanu and Merchant Streets will be shut down near Murphy’s and an entertainment stage will be set up in a nearby parking lot. Maunalua, Darren Benitez, Christian from Beach 5 and Mailani also will be performing.
Food booths will feature items prepared, cooked and served by public school athletic directors and coaches from around the state. Scrip will be sold for $5 each or $20 for a book of five.
All proceeds will go toward the SOS Fund, which so far has raised close to $1.1 million to help public school athletic departments soften the blow from a 36-percent cut to their budgets compared to last year.
