HIFF announces festival award winnners

The Hawaii International Film Festival announced its 2009 award winners this afternoon during a presentation at the Regal Dole Cannery Stadium 18 Theaters.

Many of the films will be shown again on Sunday at times to be announced. Go to HIFF.org for more information.
HALEKULANI GOLDEN ORCHID AWARDS
— Narrative Feature “Empire of Silver,” directed by Yao Shuhua.
— Documentary feature, was presented to “Petition,” directed by Zhao Liang.  
NETPAC AWARD (given at select international film festivals to promote Asian cinema by spotlighting exceptional works and discovering new talent).
— “Castaway on the Moon,” directed by Hey-jun Lee.
PUMA EMERGING FILMMAKER AWARD
— “Children of Invention,” directed by Tze Chun.
VIDEO-ON-DEMAND VIEWERS CHOICE AWARD
— “Ajumma! Are You Krazy?,” directed by Brent Anbe.
AUDIENCE CHOICE AWARD
Will be given to the film that audience members voted as their favorite film. The Audience Awards for Favorite Feature, Documentary and Short will be announced on Nov. 2.
