Hunter finally bags a winner

 • Pigskin picks

Go ahead, Gordon, tell your friends you're a winner. To their faces.

"I tell my friends every week that I'm going to win, but every week they don't believe me ... Now, they finally believe," said Gordon Hunter, 60, who won this week's Pigskin Picks contest and the accompanying prize of a trip for two to Las Vegas and $100 worth of pizza from Papa John's.

Hunter, who plays the print version of the contest, said he used to get a good deal of ribbing.

"They give me entries. 'Here's some entries. Try your luck,' " he said.

Even his daughter, Hollis, got into the act.

Hunter would enter ballots in her name and would tell her if she won, the prize would have to be split with him.

Hunter said she would say, " 'We're not going to win, I don't care' ... Now, she wants to go."

He correctly picked the winners of 14 of 15 games, losing only the overtime game won by Buffalo over the New York Jets. He won via tiebreaker.

Hunter is retired but said, "I'm a professional contestant. All I do is enter contests. If there's a contest to enter I enter it, as long as it's free."

Hunter said he returned from Las Vegas last week after his 1967 Farrington High class members celebrated their 60th birthday party.

"I'm very happy. I'm stoked," he said.
