American Savings top small-biz lender

American Savings Bank provided the largest volume of small-business loans in Hawaii last year, according to the Small Business Administration.

American Savings issued $6.3 million in loans to Hawaii small-business operators during the 12 months ending Sept. 30. American Savings was followed by First Hawaiian Bank which had $5.3 million in SBA loans and Central Pacific Bank which had $4.6 million.

Central Pacific issued the largest number of SBA loans with 113 last year, according to the SBA.

All together, Hawaii financial institutions made 328 small-business loans totaling $29.2 million last year.
