CFB-WAC: Utah State defeats Louisiana Tech 23-21

Associated Press

LOGAN, Utah — Diondre Borel passed for 188 yards and a touchdown and Chris Ulinski kicked three field goals to lead Utah State past Louisiana Tech 23-21 today.

The Aggie defense held Louisiana Tech to 108 yards and seven points in the first three quarters of the game, but then yielded 165 yards and two TDs in the final 15 minutes.

Louisiana Tech (3-4, 2-2) had held a four-game win streak over the Aggies (2-5, 1-2). The Bulldogs scored on a 20-yard pass from Ross Jenkins to Dennis Morris with 6:15 to play. The score was then 23-21, but the two-point conversion failed. Then with less than two minutes to go, a fourth-down pass to Adrian Linwood from Jenkins sailed high, allowing Utah State to run out the clock.

The first half began as a defensive struggle, with seven punts in the first quarter and neither team scoring. On Utah State's first possession of the second quarter, however, Borel made a 43-yard pass to Stanley Morrison for the team's first TD.

Utah State recovered a fumble on the ensuing kick and Ulinski kicked a 28-yard field goal seven plays later, one of two field goals for the Aggies in the quarter, to give Utah State a 10-0 lead.

The Bulldogs scored in the second quarter when Phillip Livas returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown.

Utah State gained 245 yards in the first half, compared to Louisiana Tech's 66. The Bulldogs also had two turnovers, helping Utah State to a 20-7 halftime edge.
