The support from their teammates yielded individual titles.

Kamehameha's Bradley Doi won his second straight boys individual title and Audrey Martin of Ho'äla won the girls title at yesterday's Interscholastic League of Honolulu bowling championships at Fort Shafter Bowl.

Doi, a sophomore, finished with a three-game series of 722, and found a nice streak behind nine straight strikes in his second game.

"My team was really supporting me by yelling," Doi said. "When I did good, they were like 'oh yeah, you're the man.' It helped me a lot, the moral support."

Doi had a 198 in the first game, a score he wished was over 200. He started the second game with nine strikes and finished with a 265. He had a 259 in the final game. Doi finished Thursday and was back yesterday for the doubles portion of the championships, which pairs bowlers from the same team and ends Monday.

Maryknoll's Keenan Kurihara was second at 624.

"I have a lot of friends here that are the top bowlers from HBA, Mid-Pac," Doi said. "They're all really good. I guess I got lucky."

Ho'äla's Martin, a senior, finished with a three-game series of 585. She had a 159 in the first game, then a personal-best 278 in the second, before finishing with a 148.

"I felt excited because I was inspired by my teammates," said Martin, whose school is located in Wahiawä. "They were upbeat so I felt the good vibes."

She withstood a late challenge from runner-up and defending champion Jaymie-Rae Martin of Island Pacific, who finished with a 542.

"This season has been really exciting because my teammates really inspired me to do better, just to do my best pretty much," Ho'äla's Martin said.

Hawai'i Baptist won the ILH boys team title after finishing the regular season with a 33-3 record. Maryknoll (32-7) won the girls title.
