As many as five vehicles were stuck in a flash flood that occurred in Waikane today that closed Kamehameha Highway at Waikane Valley Road in both directions for nearly three hours.

About 100 yards of roadway was underwater and traffic was being turned around in both directions for about three hours while the roadway was flooded.
The National Weather Service canceled a flood advisory for Oahu that had been issued through 6:45 p.m. today.
Firefighters called to the scene of the cars underwater did not find anyone injured, said Capt. Terry Seelig. The cars, firefighters say, were near the stream or in the stream area before the stream near Waikane Valley Road overran its banks.
More than two inches of rain has been recorded at the Oahu Forest Reserve in the Koolau Mountain area in a three-hour period as of this afternoon.

The weather was caused by daytime heating and an unstable atmosphere that produced heavy showers over Oahu this afternoon.
