PROPER CARE OF OUR OCEAN IS CRUCIAL

Living on an island, you should already realize that we are surrounded by water and what that means. Obviously if our lives revolve around water, you'd think that islanders would be a bit more concerned about the ocean.

The truth of the matter is, we've been neglecting it. Whether it's the trash and pollution contaminating the water or overfishing, the health of our oceans is deteriorating.

Seafood is a popular dish but why bite off more than you can chew? Residents only need so much fish, and when you take more than needed, the environment will dwindle even faster. When certain fish grow in popularity, it's human nature to catch and sell more. An entire species of fish could be dangerously depleted and will not be able to reproduce fast enough when the demand grows larger.

It fishermen could limit their catch no matter how high the demand, the results will be much more positive. Supplying food for the present is important. But supplying food for the future is a necessity.
