New scoreboard dedicated in memory of Howard Oda

A new scoreboard and field improvements at Howard Oda Baseball Field in Wahiawa were dedicated yesterday.

The scoreboard was donated by Dura Constructors in memory of Howard Kazumi Oda, a former teacher, mentor, state representative and author who donated all proceeds from his books to the Leilehua Athletic Fund.

The Howard Oda Baseball Field is home to the Leilehua Mules baseball team. The long-awaited improvements include new dugouts and a batting cage.

The scoreboard and field improvements were Oda's vision for Fred Wright District Park, where the field is located, according to a press release from Councilman Donovan Dela Cruz.

"The Wahiawä community is excited to finally see Mr. Oda's dreams come to fruition," Dela Cruz said in the statement.

City officials and Dela Cruz were among the guests at the dedication.
