Samantha Lau had a good week — in one match.

The Linfield (Ore.) sophomore libero had a stellar 47 digs in a Northwest Conference match against Pacific (Ore.) Friday. The Wildcats won, 25-15, 18-25, 25-20, 30-28.

"She usually touches a lot of balls anyway," Linfield coach Shane Kimura said. "But against Pacific she made some great plays. She had 47 digs and we only went four (sets)."

Lau, a 2008 St. Francis graduate and Kailua native, wasn't even aware of her feat until her dad called her from home.

"My uncle and mom were tracking the live stats and I guess one of them text-messaged my dad," Lau said. "I was really surprised it was that much. I wasn't thinking about it when I was playing ... more just about what I needed to do to keep plays going."

Despite an 8-11 start, Lau has been a bright spot for the Wildcats. She is averaging a conference-best 5.33 digs per set and also has 24 service aces, which ranks her sixth in the NWC.

"She's been doing great things for us. She's our best passer and defender," said Kimura, who noted Lau played outside hitter as a freshman. "We wanted her to be a libero last year, but she hit the ball so well that she played outside for us."

Lau, who averaged 2.55 kills and 4.03 digs per set last season, welcomed the move.

"I actually prefer playing libero. I prefer to dive around the court and get balls up," said Lau, who played outside hitter in high school. "But, I think this position is better for me because my knees aren't that stable right now for jumping."

Linfield is 5-7 and in a three-way tie for fifth in the NWC with four matches to play. Lau is hopeful the Wildcats can finish on a strong note.

"We've lost the first time around to the four teams we have left," Lau said. "I really want to see us come out and leave it all on the court and be competitive and maybe pull out a win."

• Washington senior libero Tamari Miyashiro (Kalani '05 of Käneohe) had a match-high 28 digs, but the Huskies were upset in four sets by rival Washington State Friday. UW fell one spot to No. 5 in this week's AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 poll.

• Cal Poly freshman setter Anuhea Keanini (Punahou '09 of Honolulu) recorded 54 assists, four digs and two kills, and freshman outside hitter Chelsea Hardin (Iolani '09 of Honolulu) added 11 kills and 10 digs in a five-set loss at UC Irvine Saturday. Junior outside hitter Larissa Nordyke (Punahou '07 of Honolulu) had four digs and two kills for Irvine. Nordyke notched 11 kills and 13 digs in Friday's five-set loss to UC Santa Barbara.

• Pacific (Calif.) senior defensive specialist Dancyne Kama (Kamehameha-Hawaii '06 of Hilo) had 16 digs with seven assists, and sophomore outside hitter Rebekah Torres (Kamehameha '08 of Wahiawä) added 10 digs and nine kills in a five-set loss at Cal State Northridge Friday.

• Long Beach State sophomore defensive specialist Lauren Minkel (Iolani '08 of Honolulu) had a match-high 23 digs with two service aces in Saturday's sweep of Cal State Fullerton.

• UNLV junior libero Kela Lau Hee (Kamehameha-Maui '07 of Pukalani) had a match-high 12 digs in a sweep of Air Force Saturday. Lau Hee had 14 digs in Thursday's four-set loss to San Diego State.

• St. John's (N.Y.) freshman libero Ashley Asing (Moanalua '08 of Ewa Beach) recorded a match-high 21 digs and junior defensive specialist Kayla Motoyama (Roosevelt '07 of Honolulu) added seven digs in a five-set loss to Connecticut Saturday.

• Boston College sophomore libero Brennan Clark (University High '08 of Mililani) came up with a match-high 19 digs in a five-set loss at Virginia Tech Friday. Clark again led all players in a five-set loss Saturday at Virginia with 25 digs.

• Hofstra freshman defensive specialist Kylee Maneja (Sacred Hearts '09 of Kapolei) had 21 digs and freshman libero Maile Scarpino (Iolani '09 of Kailua) added 12 digs and an ace in a five-set win at William & Mary (Va.) Saturday.

• Oregon State senior setter Camilla Ah-Hoy (Kahuku '06 of Lä'ie) had 28 assists in a three-set loss at USC Friday and 26 in Saturday's three-set loss at UCLA.

• St. Mary's (Calif.) senior middle blocker Megan Burton (Iolani '06 of Kapolei) had 12 kills and was in on seven blocks in a four-set win at Gonzaga Saturday.

• Pittsburgh junior defensive specialist Melanie Feldman (Punahou '07 of Honolulu) recorded nine digs and an ace in a sweep of West Virginia Friday.

• Fairfield (Conn.) sophomore outside hitter Haililani Pokipala (Sacred Hearts '08 of Honolulu) had 13 digs, 11 kills and two aces in Sunday's five-set win over Niagara.

• Siena (N.Y.) senior setter Kaui Robello (Punahou '06 of Honolulu) had 17 digs and freshman defensive specialist Lesli Akeo (Kamehameha '09 of Kapolei) added 16 in a four-set win over Rider (N.J.) Saturday.

• Colgate junior outside hitter Logan Keala (Kamehameha '07 of Käneohe) notched nine digs and seven kills in a sweep of Holy Cross Saturday. Keala had team-highs of 18 digs and 13 kills in a five-set loss at Army Friday.

• Adelphi (N.Y.) junior setter Heather Mau (Maryknoll '07 of Honolulu) had 41 assists, eight digs and five kills in a five-set loss to Bridgeport (Conn.) Sunday. In Friday's five-set loss to New Haven (Conn.), Mau had 46 assists and 11 digs for the Panthers.

• San Jose State freshman setter Caitlin Andrade (Kamehameha '09 of Kailua) had 38 assists, four digs and three kills in a four-set loss at New Mexico State Saturday. Senior defensive specialist Kristal Tsukano (Kamehameha '06 of Honolulu) had 11 digs and five kills, and freshman outside hitter Alex Akana (Kamehameha '09 of Kailua) added eight kills for the Spartans.

• Nevada junior outside hitter Kylie Harrington (St. Francis '07 of Honolulu) had a game-high 15 kills with eight digs, but the Wolf Pack was swept at Idaho Thursday. Sophomore setter Tatiana Santiago (Kamehameha '08 of Kahuku) contributed 11 assists and nine digs for Nevada.

• Manhattanville (N.Y.) sophomore setter Makana Gomes (Iolani '08 of Honolulu) recorded 33 assists, seven digs, four aces and three kills in a four-set win over John Jay (N.Y.) Friday.

• Concordia (Ore.) sophomore setter Skyler Kamaka (Kamehameha '08 of Käneohe) had 43 assists and nine digs in a five-set win at Corban (Ore.) Friday. Kamaka recorded 54 assists, 11 digs, three kills and two aces in Saturday's four-set win at Northwest Christian (Ore.).

• Bryant (R.I.) freshman outside hitter Macy Mitravich (Sacred Hearts '09 of Waimänalo) had a team-high 20 digs with eight kills in Saturday's five-set loss at Fairleigh Dickinson (N.J).

• Regis (Colo.) sophomore libero Cassidee Young (Kamehameha '08 of Pearl City) had a match-high 22 digs with two aces in a five-set loss at Metro State (Colo.) last Tuesday.

• Central Washington junior libero Brandie Vea (Kalani '07 of Honolulu) came up with a team-high 18 digs in a five-set loss at Alaska-Fairbanks Saturday. Vea recorded 30 digs Thursday in a four-set loss at Alaska-Anchorage.

• Puget Sound senior libero Leigh Sumida (Iolani '06 of Käneohe) had a match-high 19 digs and junior defensive specialist Kris Sumida (Iolani '07 of Käneohe) had 10 digs and six aces in a sweep of Willamette (Ore.).

• Linfield (Ore.) sophomore libero Samantha Lau (St. Francis '08 of Kailua) recorded 47 digs in a four-set win over Pacific (Ore.) Friday. Junior outside hitter Christiana Chandler (Leilehua '07 of Wahiawä) had 15 kills and seven digs, sophomore middle blocker Kelsy Takashima (Molokai '08 of Kaunakakai) added 17 digs, 13 kills and two aces, and sophomore defensive specialist Mari Kondo (Mid-Pacific '08 of Ewa Beach) had 18 digs for Pacific.

• Redlands (Calif.) senior setter Kelina Smith (Waiäkea '06 of Kurtistown) had 46 assists, 10 digs and four kills in a four-set win at Pomona-Pitzer (Calif.) Friday. Smith had 34 assists and 10 digs in Saturday's sweep of Occidental (Calif.).

• Western New Mexico freshman middle blocker Ziona Verhulsdonk (Hawaii Prep '09 of Kailua, Kona) had 18 digs, 13 kills, seven assists and five blocks in a five-set win over Western State (Colo.) Friday. Freshman outside hitter Jovan Falemalu (Kahuku '09 of Läie) added six kills, five digs and four assists for WNMU.

• Arizona Western sophomore libero Sadie Smith (Kamehameha '07 of Käneohe) had 15 digs and three aces in a three-set loss to Scottsdale Community College last Wednesday. Smith recorded 16 digs in a three-set loss to Glendale CC Friday.

FOOTBALL

• Notre Dame freshman outside linebacker Manti Teo (Punahou '09 of Läie) posted a team-high nine tackles, including 2 1/2 for losses, in the Fighting Irish's 20-16 win over Boston College Saturday. Teo also recorded a quarterback hurry and broke up a pass. Freshman wide receiver Robert Toma (Punahou '09 of Läie) caught two passes for 13 yards for the Irish.

• Oregon junior quarterback Jeremiah Masoli (Saint Louis '06) rushed for two touchdowns and threw for one in Saturday's 43-19 win at Washington. Masoli, who did not play against UCLA two weeks ago due to a knee injury, scored on a 1-yard run in the second quarter and a 3-yard run in the third. He also threw a 16-yard TD pass in the second half. Masoli finished 14 of 22 for 157 yards and 54 rushing yards on 11 attempts. Washington sophomore defensive end Kalani Aldrich (Kamehameha-Hawaii '07 of Hilo) made three tackles and was in on a sack.

• Utah senior linebacker Kepa Gaison (Kamehameha '05 of Käneohe) had seven tackles and junior defensive end Nai Fotu (Kahuku '07 of Läie) added two in the Utes' 23-16 overtime win over Air Force Saturday.

• Idaho sophomore linebacker Robert Siavii (Leilehua '08 of Wahiawä) made four tackles and forced a fumble, and junior linebacker JoJo Dickson (Baldwin '07 of Wailuku) also had four stops in Saturday's 70-45 loss at Nevada.

• California senior defensive lineman Tyson Alualu (Saint Louis '05 of Honolulu) made five tackles and broke up a pass in a 49-17 win over Washington State Saturday.

• Oregon State sophomore linebacker David Paaluhi (Waianae '07) had five tackles and broke up a pass in a 42-36 loss to USC Saturday.

• BYU sophomore wide receiver Spencer Hafoka (Kahuku '05) caught three passes for 31 yards in a 38-7 loss to TCU Saturday.

• Weber State junior quarterback Cameron Higgins (Saint Louis '06 of Hawaii Kai) passed for 292 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions in a 28-20 win at Northern Colorado Saturday. Sophomore defensive tackle Ryan Eastman (Saint Louis '08 of Honolulu) made six tackles and freshman wide receiver Kamana Kaimikaua (from Hawaii Kai) caught three passes for 38 yards for the Wildcats.

• Pacific Lutheran (Wash.) junior wide receiver Kyle Whitford (Punahou '07 of Kailua) caught six passes for 61 yards in Saturday's 35-13 win over Puget Sound.

MEN'S SOCCER

• Gonzaga junior forward Nick Love (Punahou '07 of Käneohe) scored his third goal of the season in the 52nd minute of a 2-2 tie against Portland last Wednesday. Senior forward Tye Perdido (Seabury Hall '06 of Kula) assisted on the Bulldogs' second goal of the game in the 66th minute.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

• St. Mary's (Calif.) senior forward Ashley Nied (Punahou '06 of Kailua) scored her fourth goal of the season in the 72nd minute of a 5-1 loss at Portland Friday.

• Cal State Northridge junior defender Jasmine Pratt (Mililani '07) had an assist in the 51st minute of Sunday's 1-0 win over UC Irvine.

• Concordia-Chicago junior forward Lauren Souza (Kaläheo '07 of Kailua) was named Cougar Female Athlete of the Week after she scored three goals and had an assist last week. Souza had two goals and an assist in a win over Rockford College last Wednesday. She also scored against Maranatha Baptist Friday.

CROSS COUNTRY

• Kevin Acacio (Waipahu '07) of Illinois Tech finished 13th at Saturday's Fighting Bee Invite with an 8K time of 29:01 as Illinois Tech won the men's team title with 21 points.

• Bailey Massenburg (King Kekaulike '09 of Kula) of Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) finished 42nd at Saturday's Biola Invitational with a time of 19:29 in the women's 5K.

• Cal State Stanislaus' Dawson Vorderbruegge (Kaiser '08 of Honolulu) finished 19th at Saturday's California Collegiate Athletic Association championships with a time of 26:15.1 in the men's 8K. Teammate Elizabeth La Madrid (Kaua'i '09) placed 85th in the women's 6K in 27:31.5.

• Christina Wong (Punahou '07 of Honolulu) of Amherst (Mass.) placed 17th at Saturday's Little Three Championships with a 5K time of 19:55.

• UCLA sophomore Stephanie Kono (UCLA '08 of Honolulu) shot 1-over par (73-71-73) to finish in a tie for fifth at the NCAA Fall Preview in Wilmington, N.C. last weekend. Denver freshman Kimberly Kim (from Pähoa) shot 74-74-79 to finish in a tie for 38th and New Mexico senior Britney Choy (Leilehua '06 of Wahiawä) shot 78-81-81 to finish 78th.

• Furman (S.C.) junior Jackie Hilea (Moanalua '07 of Käneohe) shot rounds of 75-70-80 to finish at 9-over in a tie for 27th at the 32nd Annual Florida International University Pat Bradley Invitational in Fort Myers, Fla. Furman won the team competition.

• Colorado senior Christine Kim (Waiäkea '06 of Pähoa) is tied for ninth entering today's final round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in Boulder City, Nev. Kim shot an opening-round 70 on Monday before carding a 75 yesterday.

• Cal State Northridge junior Ashlee Nagamine (La Pietra '07 of Honolulu) won medalist honors at the 36-hole Aztec Fall Classic earlier this month. Nagamine shot 74-74 to finish at 2-over par. San Diego State junior Kaitlen Miyajima (Baldwin '07 of Wailuku) shot 85-77 to finish in a tie for 19th.

SWIMMING & DIVING

• UCLA junior Brittany Beauchan (Punahou '07 of Honolulu) won the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events Saturday in a meet against Oregon State and UC Santa Barbara. Beauchan won the 100 in 1:02.66 and the 200 in 2:13.89 — both meet records. She also was on the winning 200 medley team.

• Fairfield (Conn.) sophomore Michelle Yoshida (Punahou '08 of Käneohe) finished second in the 200-yard backstroke and tied for third in the 50 freestyle at the Husky Invitational Sunday in Storrs, Conn. Yoshida set a school record with a time of 2:10.14 in the 200 backstroke and finished the 50 freestyle in 24.58 seconds. She was also on the fourth-place 200 freestyle relay team.

• Lindenwood (Mo.) sophomores Sarah Billiamosa (Pearl City '08) and Jessica Lau (Iolani '08 of Honolulu) teamed with senior Jenna Nakamoto (Kalani '06 of Honolulu) to win the 300-yard butterfly relay race in a time of 3:18.83 at the Rose-Hulman Relays Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind. Billiamosa was also on the winning 800 freestyle relay and Nakamoto was a part of the first-place 400 individual medley relay.
