High-surf advisory issued as northwest swell reaches Niihau, Kauai, Oahu

Advertiser Staff

The National Weather Service has issued a high-surf advisory for the north- and west-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai and Oahu.

The weather service says a low-pressure system northwest of the Islands will generate a large but short-period swell.
Surf is expected to rise to 10 to 15 feet on Niihau and Kauai today.
The weather service says Oahu's North Shore will see waves in the 10- to 15-foot range through tomorrow, while the west shore will see 8- to 12-foot surf.
The advisory remains in effect until 6 tonight for Niihau and Kauai, and until 6 tomorrow night for Oahu.
